Employment History

 

2003-Present       Co-owner and Manager.  Venus Surf Adventures (Costa Rica).  Create, organize, and manage curriculums, clinics, classes and activities for our various adventures.  Photograph (train photo intern), train staff, help with website design, supervise, teach and entertain guests. Artilce in HPU magazine about Venus Surf Adventures

 

2001-2002            ESL Teacher.  International Mid Pac College (Hawaii).  Taught and designed coursework/special classes, like Intermediate Reading and Hawaiiana and Learning English through Music, for adult Japanese and Korean ESL students.

 

2001-2002            Massage Therapist.  Injury Care Clinic (Hawaii).  Medical massage and rehabilitation.

 

1996-2002            Self-employed.  Painting and Drywall contractor (Hawaii and New York).

 

Fall 2001              Teaching Assistant.  Hawaii Pacific University.  EFP 0670 Intermediate Writing with Barbara Loveless.

 

Summer 1998      ESL Teacher and Assistant Activities Coordinator. International Hospitality Center (Hawaii).  Created ESL course material and organized/lead activities for French, Tahitian, and Japanese teens to the completion of the summer term.

 

1997-1998            Teen Counselor and Assistant Shop Teacher.  Marimed Foundation (Hawaii).  Taught, counseled, and designed a boat shop curriculum for a live-in, maritime outreach program for at-risk, adolescent males.

 

Spring 1996         Actor.  Performed in the French film Tempête dans un verre d’eau (New York) and with the theater troupe “Yaka” in Je marche en peu y je reviens (France).

Interests

 

Surfing                  25 years on all kinds of boards and waves, contest surfing, teaching, but mostly, I love soul surfing and surf travel.

Photography       University of Hawaii and Windward community College courses in photography.  

Sports                    Participating in and promoting running, biking, swimming, yoga, dance, boarding… Created and directed a local race, Mini-maraton de la amistad, to promote running and raise money for the school library.  Organized a local dance club, and various other athletic group activities.

Nature                  Watching, photographing, preserving wildlife.  This year the majority of Venus Surf Adventures’ donations and support will go to didactic materials and paying educators for the school library to promote awareness of the local turtle population.
